Stained Glass Candle Holder

Many times when I’m at the grocery or drug store, I can’t resist throwing a few scented votive candles in my cart. When I’m ready to burn them, it’s easy enough to sit one on a cute little vintage china saucer, but I recently decided to try and find a fancier display solution for them. I also wanted the project to be inexpensive, and the materials used to be things I already had on hand. I was inspired by memories of making faux-stained glass in elementary school and came up with these fun little glass votive holders. This project is quick and easy, and a great way to whip up custom party décor on the cheap.

Glowing Photo Luminaries – From Our Best Bites

When I was growing up, we had a formal dining room that was only used on special occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.  At one point I thought that was a really wasted use of space, but now looking back- because it was so special, that room was home to some of my most precious family memories.  It’s the only room where we used  my great grandmother’s gold-plated china.  And where we sat on fancy padded chairs and got to drink sparkling cider and use the fancy butter knives.  It’s also the only room where every meal was eaten by candlelight- and it was magical.  My parents would dim the lights and right before we started our meal, they’d light tall candlesticks and the little flickering lights would reflect off the crystal goblets and make everything twinkle.  My family meals now, even on special holidays, are much more casual.  I purposely didn’t build a formal dining room, and sometimes we even use (gasp) paper plates!  However the one thing that I still love, is having flickering candles on the table.

Such a clear & simple walk-through...no sewing required! DIY Roman Shades

It always feels great when you have your mind set on how you want something to look and then it all comes together.  This is exactly what has happened with my entry way/porch area.  I knew I wanted to put stripes on the wall but it was a matter of finally getting around to it.  Once that was done and the porch was all cleared out I knew I had to make it something that was worth having.  That’s when I ordered my desk and watched the space slowly turn into what I had envisioned.  I had my cream and tan stripes, I had my white lacquered desk, now it was time for some color. With all those windows in that space it was the perfect opportunity to add a fun hue! For the most part, I love calming colors in my space like soft muted blues, greens and gray and dare I say beige! Well, not this time! I was looking for a straight up girly space and what is more glamorous and girly than PINK! I decided to use my existing blinds to create some roman shades with some awesome pink fabric! I had to first find the right fabric and I forced myself not to over think it because oh lord I could spend months trying to pick the right fabric. Just ask the pillows on my couch that I have been trying to replace forever now! Here were some of the options I gave myself.
